The Alchemy of Release: Why Scorpio Transforms in the Middle, Not the End

Autumn leaves in brilliant colors falling to the ground representing Scorpio season transformation

When Scorpio season hits, it can feel like we've arrived at some kind of ending in the Northern Hemisphere. The leaves are falling, the air's grows cold, and culturally we're already bracing for the holiday sprint and the "new year, new you" promises waiting on the other side of January 1st.

Astrologically, though, we're only two-thirds of the way through the year.

The zodiac starts with Aries in spring — the awakening, the spark, the initiation. It moves through growth and expansion and embodiment. By the time we land in Scorpio, we pause for integration. The version of us from last spring is different than today, is it not? The part where everything we've lived through gets composted and broken down, preparing to become something new.

We lose track of that in the hustle and bustle of the holidays and the Gregorian calendar. But when we shift our understanding of time back to the astrological calendar, we're reminded that Scorpio is a gateway between the first two-thirds and the final third.

It is in this gateway that transformation often requires our engagement.

Transformation Needs Two Things: Awareness and Trust

Transformation doesn't just happen because time passes. You can spend decades in a job or relationship without much existential change. Transformation is facilitated by awareness, some kind of contrast to the status quo. Sometimes that awareness gets thrust on us — unexpected plot twists, sudden challenges, losses that arrive without warning. Other times we feel it happening within and around us, like the leaves changing color until they eventually fall to the ground and become something else entirely.

Scorpio season allows us to cultivate this awareness of inner and outer change. Without this ingredient, alchemy stays incomplete. Life stays in the realm of "routine."

Through awareness, Scorpio moves us into change. Once we reach that part of the energetic cycle — when jobs go away or we start saying out loud what isn't working for us in a marriage or death enters our world again — we move into the alchemy part of Scorpio. We learn to balance awareness with trust.

We have to trust the colors we're seeing show up in our lives — the subtle and loud calls for release. Sometimes the Universe through a gentle unraveling and slow letting-go; other times it's painfully sudden, a rupturing that reorganizes everything in an instant.

When death (or a major ending) arrives, it shifts the entire focus. You were looking at all those things over there, when really, it's these things over here that fate needs you to see. We always think logic will give us an edge in predicting death — statistical odds, likelihoods. But it doesn't work like that, Scorpio season reminds us. Logic explains time until it can't anymore. Logic is an illusion to feel in control. But some endings we can’t predict, postpone, or control. We must simply (painfully) surrender and trust.

The release is making space for something. The point of Scorpio season isn’t to know what that something is necessarily (we’ll save that for the Pisces / Aries seasons). Scorpio’s power lies in the loss, in the void itself.

Who are you now? What parts of you can actually never die, even if they radically change form? Scorpio wants you to see that side of life, the parts that lie on the other side of death.

What Has Been Released This Season?

Take a moment to reflect on the parts of your world that have been released this season — whether gracefully or suddenly.

What have you let go of? What has been taken? What have you shed?

You don't need to know what comes to fill the void. That isn't Scorpio's work. Scorpio asks you to be with the emptiness, to honor the composting, to trust that what's breaking down is becoming fertile ground.

And Speaking of Change...

Transformation isn't just personal — it's collective. As we move through this astrological year and step into 2026, we're standing at the edge of massive shifts.

One of the biggest? Uranus entering Gemini.

This transit (April 25, 2026 – May 22, 2033) will revolutionize how we communicate, learn, and connect. It's a once-in-a-lifetime collective shift. If Scorpio is asking you to compost and release on a personal level, Uranus in Gemini is the reminder that change is happening everywhere — and the question is how consciously we move through it.
